Here is a presentation of the new concept. Like us, this new concept uses a temporal navigation rather than the spatial navigation (like the Finder) to retrieve information. More importantly, you lose the tight integration with the operating system that you've come to (rightfully) expect from using Finder. The problem with the first course of action is that you lose all access to all those Finder features that did work. Will I have archive them in folders? No, I simply move the TimeCursor of may consciousness to remember. Each of these takes one of two approaches: replacement or augmentation. All day I record with my 5 senses lots of information. As an alternative, or in addition to the Space organization, this new concept use the Time to organize our information, as we do with our brains. The Space is divided into subspaces, or folders. The Finder use the Space to organize our files. But if you know any app that looks like mine, let me know. I must be honest, I am also the developer of this new concept. If that is the question, if you AskDifferent, the following may interest you. What means "Finder replacement", something like TotalFinder, PathFinder, …, or a really new way to manage our files? I mean, a new concept able to replace the Finder main function : managing our information. That the question! We use the Finder to organize and retrieve our files. If you are a scripter or programmer, I would go with PathFinder. Check out:įor more details about AppleScript and developing for PathFinder.īottom line: If you want a simple enhancement to the Finder, I would suggest TotalFinder. I have barely touched the full features of PathFinder. ![]() I have mine to show:ġ) Info - similar to Get Info for the selected itemĢ) Preview - which is, well, a preview of the selected item I have mine to show:Ģ) Selection Path - showing the full path to the selected file/folderīelow your PathFinder window you can set up various options, too. You have 4 panes (2 on each side of the PathFinder window) that you can customize. PathFinder has many more advanced features: This is great for moving files between folders. It’s not something that everyone will need, but if you’re looking for a Mac Finder replacement, Commander One is the way to go.For general Finder-type things, I find TotalFinder very similar to the Finder with the major benefit of Tabs (yeah!) and Dual Mode, where you get two Finder windows side-by-side. Like my review of CloudMounter, my score of “It’s Okay” isn’t meant to be negative. Like CloudMounter, it’s worth it if you want to mount cloud storage, compress and extract files, switch themes, or use other pro features. Upgrading to PRO is a US$30 in-app purchase, and you can use PRO features free for 15 days. Commander One can mount drives like CloudMounter can. Commander One is made by Eltima, the same company behind CloudMounter. Commander One also lets you search with Spotlight inside the app.Īside from Spotlight, you can use Commander One to open Terminal, System Console, Activity Monitor, Disk Utility, and Network Utility. And it lets you specify the number of subdirectories to look in. You can search in archives, or find text in documents that matches your search words. When it comes to searching for files, you can use Regular Expressions. Anyway, Cmd-X works perfectly fine, whenever neither the target or source is the Desktop, but when either resource involves /Desktop, I don’t get any productive output. And there’s a handy switch to show hidden files. The primary reason that I purchased TotalFinder was to have a viable Cntrl-X shortcut replacement that is taken as part of the fundamental end user operating paradigm in Windows. You can open an unlimited number of tabs in each panel, which supercharges it even more. Commander Oneįor starters, you can use two panes and once to maximize your file management. The app is written in the Swift programming language and it feels like a natural part of macOS. Think of it as the Finder for power users. ![]() It has powerful tools built in that let you interface with your system in new ways. Commander One is a tool that acts as a Mac Finder replacement.
